Welcome to the instructions page for building your own Prezi. What's a Prezi? Well, it's a type of presentation. But more on that in a bit. Let's get started.
Getting Started with Prezi
There are a bunch of things you need to learn in order to create, edit and use a Prezi. I've listed some of them below. That list is made up of links -- you can click on each one and go to the section you want to learn.
Have you ever seen a Prezi? Do you know what one is?
A Prezi is a web-based presentation program. It is different from other presentation programs you may have used (like powerpoint) in that all the information in your presentation is in one place. You put everything you need into place and use the program to zoom in and around your presentation. In that cool way, it is like a large poster or canvas that you display once, but then get to show, in depth, various parts. Let's take a look at what one looks like.
Click hereto see a really great Prezi about making a Prezi. When you're done playing around with it, click back to this page to continue.
Now that you know what one is, let's get you started making your own Prezi.
Choose the "Public" license by clicking the "Start Now" button in the public column
Fill in the form on the Registration Page.
-- Make sure you use your real name
-- use your SoF email address (unless you can't remember it, then just use the email address that you usually use)
-- email your username and password to your advisor (do that NOW!)
-- click the box that says you understand that your prezi's will be public
Hit the "Register and Continue" button.
You may, at some other point, go in and create a complete profile (Do NOT do that now!) . Prezi is a little like Facebook, YouTube, Vimeo or wikispaces in that there is a community of people online who use this type of presentation. The online community is set up to share and find presentations and resources.
Once you've set up your account and you have to start learning the basics. Let's do that now.
Learn the Basics
Prezi has an incredibly good set of learning videos. We are going to use them to create your first Prezi. Here's what you need to do:
NOTE: For the remainder of these instructions, you are going to have to switch between multiple tabs. Make sure you know how to do that. If you do, keep reading. If you don't call someone over to help you.
Open Prezi.com (clicking on this link will open a new tab). If you already have it open, switch to it.
Notice that, within the Prezi Page, there are 3 tabs (NOT browser tabs, but tabs WITHIN the page). They are labeled: "Your prezis," "Learn" and "Explore."
Click on the "Learn" tab.
At the top of the page are 3 "How to" videos. If you have access to YouTube, you are going to be watching a video, pausing when it teaches you something new, switching to your own prezi and trying it. You'll then switch back to the video and keep watching until it teaches you something new again. If you DON'T have access to YouTube, open the written tutorial by clicking on this link: http://prezi.com/learn/getting-started/
Click here to open another Prezi tab. Switch back to the tab that has the "Learn" videos or the "Getting Started" text. Watch the video or start reading the text
Don't let more than 25 seconds of the video go by without switching back and starting your own prezi. Pause at around 25 seconds, switch back to your prezi page and start your first one.
The "Prezi Tutorial" mentioned at 45 seconds into the video may not load for you. DO NOT WORRY ABOUT IT, NOR LET IT STOP YOU. Keep following the video and working on your prezi.
Make sure you know how to do the following things:
-- add text
-- edit that text
-- use the zebra -- rotate the text
-- zoom in and out
-- add images
-- add a YouTube video
-- add a presentation path
-- use the "Show" bubble to start your presentation -- know how to get to the cheat sheets that can help you.
Now that you have made a basic Prezi, we're going to use the next tutorial to go a bit deeper.
Go to the Next Level
Again, you are going to need to have open at least 3 tabs, one for this page, one for prezi and one for the tutorial videos.
PLEASE NOTE: for this part of the learning you will NEED YouTube access. So if you don't have it, please go somewhere that you can get it.
Go to the Prezi "Learn" tab and click on the "Go to the Next Level" video NOTE: If you click on the second video and the first one starts playing again, do the following:
-- exit the video
-- refresh the page (if you don't know how to do this, call someone over)
-- start the video again
Here is what you should know how to do before the end of the video:
-- group presentation items
-- create a frame
-- use layering
-- find the prezi manual
Now that you've created a cool prezi, you have to be able to share it. Let's do that next
Share Your Prezi
Again, you are going to need to have open at least 3 tabs, one for this page, one for prezi and one for the tutorial videos.
PLEASE NOTE: for this part of the learning you will NEED YouTube access. So if you don't have it, please go somewhere that you can get it.
Go to the Prezi "Learn" tab and click on the "Share your prezil" video NOTE: If you click on the third video and either the first or the second one starts playing again, do the following:

Here is what you should know how to do before the end of the video:

-- share on facebook or twitter
-- share with others who will edit your prezi with you
-- invite others to edit from within the prezi (using the prezi meeting function)
-- present your prezi using a path
-- present your prezi without a path
-- embed it onto a blog or website (this is only for advanced users who have a blog, wiki or other website already)
Share your prezi with your advisor by sending him/her a view only link in an email.
You can, of course, keep learning how to use prezi with these tutorials. If you have any questions or problems, don't hesitate to email me at alsylvia@yahoo.com.
